Cartagena’s ‘Ruta por la Historia’ (Route through History) program is bringing students from local public and private schools to explore the city’s rich colonial past. This initiative, led by the Sociedad de Mejoras Públicas de Cartagena, in collaboration with the Museo Histórico de Cartagena and the Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano, offers guided tours of churches, convents, and other historical sites. Students learn about the architecture, traditions, and cultural significance of these spaces, gaining a deeper understanding of Cartagena’s heritage beyond textbooks. The program emphasizes the role of these historical sites not only as centers of spirituality but also as institutions of education and healthcare during the colonial era. The program aims to foster a sense of ownership and responsibility for preserving Cartagena’s cultural heritage among the city’s youth. The initiative is ongoing until September 4th, engaging students from various schools, including Nuestra Señora de Fátima, Instituto Educativo Nissi, and La Nueva Esperanza.
