Cartagena Mayor Dumek Turbay Paz, who won the October election with strong support, is determined to make a significant impact on the city. He recently secured a 1.5 billion peso loan from the City Council to finance infrastructure projects, including road and sewage improvements, as well as education and sports facilities. Turbay’s popularity has also been on the rise, as he topped a recent Invamer Poll as the most popular mayor among major Colombian cities. The poll showed an approval rating of 74%, exceeding those of other mayors like Fico Gutierrez in Medellin and Alejandro Char in Barranquilla. Turbay further boosted his image by inaugurating the newly renovated La Bodeguita Pier, a key tourist attraction that was in a state of disrepair for years. The 8-month renovation project, costing 1.963 billion pesos, revitalized the 173-meter wooden pier, creating a safe space for both tourism and nautical operations.
