BYD, a prominent Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer often referred to as Tesla’s rival, has introduced a new model series called Xia at the Chengdu auto show. The initial model in this new lineup is the Xia MPV, aiming to expand BYD’s product range and appeal to a wider consumer base. Priced around RMB 300,000 ($42,340), the Xia MPV will be available for sale later this year. This model joins BYD’s Dynasty lineup, known for its historical Chinese dynasty-inspired names, with previous model families including the Han, Tang, Qin, Song, and Yuan. The Xia MPV features BYD’s latest fifth-generation DM hybrid technology, offering improved fuel efficiency. The vehicle is spacious, measuring 5,145 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width, and 1,805 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,045 mm. BYD’s new MPV model marks a strategic move to capture a larger share of the Chinese electric vehicle market, a sector witnessing significant growth and fierce competition.
