Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister of State, has urged the implementation of debate programs in FCT public schools to foster critical thinking and healthy discussions among young students. Mahmoud, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, emphasized the importance of debates in a world often marked by division. She highlighted the power of conversation and the need to understand diverse perspectives. The debate program, organized by the FCT Universal Basic Education Board and the FCT Reform Coordination and Service Improvement, saw students engaging in discussions on key issues, developing communication skills, and understanding complex topics. The Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Alhassan Sule, highlighted the debate’s purpose in uncovering hidden student potential and promoting good morals. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) also commended the program, urging students to embrace integrity, transparency, and accountability in their future endeavors.
