Bolivia will implement a new distribution of tax revenue starting in September, based on the results of the recent Population and Housing Census. The distribution will be adjusted based on updated population figures, which will be released on August 30th. The decision to use census data for resource allocation is mandated by Law 1492, which dictates that the National Institute of Statistics (INE) will provide preliminary census information by the end of August. The Electoral Authority will then use this data to recalculate the distribution of seats in the legislature and to determine the new allocation of tax revenue. The law specifies that the new revenue distribution will be implemented by the executive branch in September. The new distribution will affect the allocation of resources among the national government, municipalities, and public universities. The funds are generated from eight national taxes, including value-added tax, corporate income tax, and excise taxes, and are shared according to the population distribution. A meeting of the National Autonomy Council, presided over by President Luis Arce, is scheduled for August 29th to discuss the preliminary census results.
