Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has expressed concerns about the continuation of ‘conspiracies’ despite the fall of the Awami League government. Addressing a solidarity rally, he warned of potential attacks on the people’s victory and urged unity to protect the gains made. The rally was held in memory of victims of enforced disappearances during the 15-year rule of the Awami League government, with Fakhrul calling for support for their families. He accused the Awami League of committing crimes against humanity through enforced disappearances, a practice he claims was unknown in Bangladeshi politics until their rule. Fakhrul criticized the government’s inaction in addressing these issues despite signing a UN convention on preventing enforced disappearances.
