A clash erupted between two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Char Elahi Union, Comilla, over establishing dominance. The incident occurred on Tuesday night at around 9 pm in Char Elahi Bazar. The injured include former chairman of Char Elahi Union and member of the Comilla district BNP convening committee, Abdul Matin Tota, his son Ibrahim, Union Parishad member of Ward 1, Mostafizur Rahman, Union Labor League leader Mizanur Rahman, and Char Elahi Union Youth Dal organizational secretary Saiful Islam. According to local sources, the clash was triggered by a planned distribution of relief supplies organized by Comilla district BNP member and industrialist, Md. Fakhrul Islam. While promoting the program, a group led by Abdul Matin Tota allegedly obstructed the efforts of former BNP president Ismail, former general secretary Sahab Uddin, and Youth Dal leader Dr. Farid. This led to verbal altercations and ultimately physical confrontations. At least 10 people were injured in the clash, with Abdul Matin Tota being admitted to Popular Hospital in Dhaka and Mizanur Rahman to Comilla General Hospital. Other injured individuals are receiving treatment at local clinics and Comilla Health Complex. Ibrahim, Tota’s son, alleges the attack was orchestrated by Awami League supporters with the intent to harm his father. Meanwhile, former BNP president Ismail accuses Tota and his son of exploiting their positions for personal gain and asserts that their actions were intended to disrupt the relief distribution efforts.
