The Director General of the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mas’ud Aliyu, has issued a urgent warning to residents living in flood-prone areas to evacuate their homes due to heightened flood threats. Aliyu emphasized the importance of taking precautions, stating that those residing in flood-prone regions with a history of flooding should prioritize the safety of their families by relocating. This call for action comes as the state grapples with the devastating impact of recent floods that have claimed four lives in Shira, Giade, and Katagum Local Government Areas. The floods have caused significant damage to homes, farmlands, and livestock, with Giade, Katagum, and Shira experiencing the most severe impact. Aliyu attributed the fatalities to building collapses and individuals being swept away by floodwaters.
