A real-life version of the ‘Banker Bilo’ movie unfolded at the Küçükçekmece Municipality in Istanbul, Turkey. Ferdi A., a cultural directorate employee, allegedly spread rumors of a mass hiring process, claiming to be collecting CVs for the municipality. Hundreds of job seekers submitted their applications to Ferdi A., who then contacted them, citing overwhelming demand and requesting payments of around 40-50,000 Turkish Lira per person. Upon making the payments, job seekers received instructions to appear at the Human Resources department on a specific date and time for their ‘job interviews.’ However, upon arriving at the appointed time, they discovered that no such mass hiring was taking place, leaving them shocked and disillusioned. Ferdi A. is currently unreachable, and the municipality has filed a criminal complaint against him.
