The BNP Secretary General, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, has demanded that the interim government initiate an investigation into all disappearances in Bangladesh over the past 15 years under the auspices of the United Nations. He expressed concern over the use of state power by the Awami League government to commit human rights abuses, including enforced disappearances. The BNP leader welcomed the interim government’s commitment to addressing human rights issues, citing their signing of the UN Declaration on the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearances. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive UN-led investigation into all human rights violations, including disappearances, killings, and torture, spanning the past 15 years. The BNP also called for a state allowance for families of missing persons and the establishment of a government investigation commission to find those who have disappeared.
