The Argentine government has simplified and digitized the process of transferring vehicle ownership, resulting in significant cost reductions for buyers. The new system eliminates transfer fees for domestically manufactured cars and imports, reducing the overall cost of transfer by 50%. Additionally, all associated documentation, including certificates, forms, and official reports, will now be free of charge. The government also implemented a “free choice of registration” policy, allowing car owners to register their vehicles at any authorized office nationwide. This empowers buyers to select the registration office with the lowest associated provincial taxes and fees, further lowering costs. The entire process can now be completed digitally, eliminating the need for in-person visits. While these changes have met with positive reception, some concerns remain. Despite the government’s call for a reduction in provincial taxes, many regions have yet to implement these changes.
