Air raid alerts have been issued for Kyiv and five other Ukrainian regions: Chernihiv, Sumy, Cherkasy, Poltava, and Kharkiv, according to data from the Ministry of Digital Transformation’s online maps. The alerts, which indicate a potential threat of airstrikes, were activated between 18:33 and 18:44 Moscow time. Ukrainian media reports indicate an explosion occurred in the Sumy region, located in northern Ukraine, coinciding with the air raid alert and sirens. The Sumy region borders Russia’s Kursk, Belgorod, and Bryansk regions. The regional center of the Sumy region is situated approximately 30 kilometers from the border with Kursk. Since October 10, 2022, the Russian military has been carrying out strikes against Ukrainian infrastructure, targeting energy facilities, defense industries, military command centers, and communications networks throughout the country. This action followed a Ukrainian attack on the Crimean Bridge. Air raid sirens have become commonplace in Ukrainian regions, often sounding throughout the entire country. Meanwhile, the Kremlin’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, has repeatedly asserted that the Russian military does not target residential buildings or civilian infrastructure.
